Description

Chief habitats in Elan Valley and Gigrin Kites are: streams and open water, frequented by grebes, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Νεροκότσυφας and Σταχτοσουσουράδα. The ancient sessile oak woodland is home to (Κοινός) Φοινίκουρος, Μαυρομυγοχάφτης, Δασοφυλλοσκόπος, Βουνοδεντροβάτης, (Κοινό) Ξεφτέρι and open moorland containing Βαλτόμπουφος, Νανογέρακο, (Ευρασιατική) Τουρλίδα, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Βροχοπούλι, Λασποσκαλίδρα, Red Grouse, Σταχτοπετρόκλης, (Κοινή) Σιταρήθρα, Μαυρολαίμης Χειμωνόκιρκος and (Κοινός) Κόρακας.

Access

Kite feeding station south of Rhayader feeds daily each afternoon. It has a hide and parking. Reservoirs are west of Rhayader and have several car parks, wetland birds usually at top ends. For a circular drive to see 4 of the 5 reservoirs, keep turning right to follow Elan valley. Claerwen reservoir is a dead end for cars.
