Description

Yedigöller is a beautiful mountain landscape with steep granite walls, glacial basins, snowfields that linger into summer, and lakes scattered across the high plateau. The lakes lie at roughly 2,800 to 3,000 metres. The surrounding ridges rise even higher, with the main Kaçkar summit towering above at 3,937 metres. This means that the area is a perfect place to see alpine birds. Among the birds you can spot are Χρυσαετός, Caspian Snowcock, Νησιώτικη Πέρδικα, Κοκκινοκαλιακούδα, Γυπαετός, Μαυρόγυπας, Χιονάδα, Twite, Crimson-winged Finch, Τοιχοδρόμος, Χιονοψάλτης, Radde's Accentor and (Κοινός) Χιονόστρουθος.

Access

Yedigöller lies high in the Kaçkar Mountains in the far northeast of Turkey, near the high mountain village of Moryayla. Access to the region is not easy, but it is best done from İspir to the village of Çayırözü, and from there to Moryayla, where the dirt road starts. Yedigöller is fairly unique in the way that it is possible to drive by car all the way up to a ridge at well over 3000m elevation. Be aware that it is a rough dirt road which is only suitable for cars with high ground clearance, certainly not the usual rental car. In bad weather conditions you should not attempt to go under any circumstance. You can also walk up from Moryayla, it is a strenuous 7 km walk to the ridge and viewpoint. Once up, there is little space for parking and a stunningly beautiful scenery overlooking the mountain meadows, the lakes below you and the cliffs of the mountains around you. A hiking trail starts at the ridge, you can walk down to the lakes and camp there, wheather permitting.
