Description
From August to October, numerous thermal gliding birds can be observed passing through the skies around Gurten. The best time is late August and early September. Then large numbers of (Ευρωπαϊκός) Σφηκιάρης are possible. With a bit of luck, Μαύρος Πελαργός will also pass by. Other regular species are: (Κοινή) Γερακίνα, (Κοινό) Ξεφτέρι, Διπλοσάϊνο, Βραχοκιρκίνεζο, Δεντρογέρακο, Ψαλιδιάρης, Τσίφτης, Ψαραετός, Λιβαδόκιρκος, Καλαμόκιρκος and Λευκός Πελαργός. In later autumn large flocks of (Κοινή) Φάσσα pass by. From time to time Βουνοσταχτάρα can be observed on food flights.

Access
The Gurten hill is located directly south of Bern city center. The best way is to take the Gurtenbahn funicular that runs from the city to the Gurten. From there it is only a 10 minutes walk to the viewing and observation point.
