Wetlands south where the Ticino river flows into Lago Maggiore. An area of marshes, reed beds, wet meadows and forest.
From the dam of Diga della Pepa you can overlook the marsh south of the Ticino river mouth and explore the south side of the river mouth on foot. It is the only mouth of a river in a lake which has remained in its natural state south of the Alps. The marshes, wet meadows, reed beds and forest are rich in birds. Among the birds you can see here are (Βουβός) Κύκνος, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Μικροτσικνιάς, Γαλαζολαίμης, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Συκοφάγος, (Ευρωπαϊκη) Βαλτόπαπια, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Νεροκοτσέλα, Στικτοπουλάδα, Βαλτοποταμίδα, Μαύρος Δρυοκολάπτης, (Κοκκινόλαιμο) Νανοβουτηχτάρι and Τσιχλοποταμίδα.
The ideal time for bird watching is from April to May. Click on a P in the map to get directions to a parking.
