Foteviken and Lilla Hammars Näs is a nice coastal area worth visiting during most times of the year.
Lilla Hammars näs is a peninsula located next to the Öresund strait and contains wide meadows and shores. The area is well known for a variety of shorebirds, ducks and seafowl but also species that prefer flat meadows such as larks and pippits. The best way to experience the area is to walk along the Western shore out to the tip and then observe Närsholmarna, the small islands outside.
Foteviken is a shallow bay which is ( especially with low tide) good for shorebirds. Part from that the area is good for ducks and geese. The best way to visit is to park at Östra Halörsvägen (see info further down) and walk down to the old hunters cabin "Gröna Jaktstugan" and stand on the bank. The area is due to the light best to visit in the evening.
Considering that the area is so close to the Falsterbo peninsula a lot of birds migrating south tend to pass Foteviken and its surroundings. As an effect of this a variety of rarities has been seen such as Μαύρος Πελαργός, Στεπόκιρκος and Κραυγαετός. Note: Entrance to Lilla Hammars Näs is restricted between 1st of april and 15th of July.
If going by bus take number 100 or 300 (from Malmö) and step of at bus stop Höllviken Östra Halörsvägen. Walk then W and follow the cycle path towards Östra Halörsvägen. The walk between Höllviken and the two locals is quite long (5 km) so prepare for a long day or if possible bring a bike on the bus.
If going by car take road 100 towards Höllviken and turn N at the roundabout and follow Östra Halörsvägen. Please be aware of that the parking at Foteviken is on private property so do park responsibly!
The admittance to Lilla hammars näs is restricted between 1st of april and 15th of July, please respect this.
