Bird hide and trail that offer good views of the biggest salt lagoons in Ses Salines Natural Park. Easy way to see (Ευρωπαϊκό) Φοινικόπτερο on Ibiza.
The Natural Park of Ses Salines in the south of Ibiza is a great place for birdwatching. The salt production activity carried out in this area for hundreds of years has formed a unique landscape, a wetland where plenty of birds nest or stop during their migrations. Up to 210 species pass through Ses Salines each year. The lagoons west of Sant Francesc de S'Estany are one of the best areas for birding in Ses Salines. Very often close views of (Ευρωπαϊκό) Φοινικόπτερο and Καλαμοκανάς. A visit is easy to combine with the salt lagoons of Sal Rossa on the other side of the road (also described on Birdingplaces).
Depending on the water levels in the different lagoons and pools you can see other bird species such as Θαλασσοσφυριχτής, (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς, Βαρβάρα, Αιγαιόγλαρος, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Τρυγόνι, Κιτρινοσουσουράδα, Μαυρολαίμης, Balearic Warbler, Ρεικοτσιροβάκος, Μαυροτσιροβάκος, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Κιστικόλη, Κοκκινοκεφαλάς, Ψαραετός and Πρασινοσκέλης.
Close to the airport and Ibiza-town. At the church of Sant Francesc de S'Estany you can park your car. There is a viewing screen behind the church and a path of 300 meters runs along the salt pans to a bird hide from where you can overlook the area.
