Description
To the south of the town of Puente Genil stands the Laguna de Zóñar, the most important lagoon in the southern wetlands of the province of Córdoba. This aquatic area consists of 66 hectares of nature reserve plus a further 304 hectares of Protection Zone, comprising a central pool and two adjacent lagoons, where aquatic vegetation grows. Its slightly salty water comes from a combination of underground sources, rainfall and surface currents. I'm birding here because it is quite beautiful and helps you to get rid of problems, in addition to a great diversity of birds.
A number of aquatic birds either nest or hibernate in this wet zone. Species recorded here include the Σουλτανοπουλάδα , Βαρβάρα , (Ευρωπαϊκη) Βαλτόπαπια , Γκισάρι and Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια. The famous (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κεφαλούδι, identifiable by its thick bluish bill and its raised, pointed tail, is the area's most emblematic species.

Espagnol: La Reserva Natural Laguna de los Zóñar forma parte del complejo de humedales del sur de la provincia de Córdoba, junto con las lagunas permanentes de Rincón y Amarga, y las estacionales de Los Jarales, Tíscar y Salobral. Todas ellas ha sido protegidas por su importancia en la invernada y nidificación de aves acuáticas. Situada al sur de la población de Puente Genil, en Aguilar de la Frontera, la Laguna de Zóñar es la mayor de los seis humedales que conforman el interesante conjunto, y constituye la zona húmeda más importante de aguas permanentes de la provincia en cuanto a profundidad se refiere, condiciones que la convierten en el único lago de Andalucía.
La Laguna de Zóñar constituye un punto clave para la malvasía, tanto en época de reproducción como de invernada. Cabe destacar la presencia del aguilucho lagunero occidental, en menor cantidad encontramos el calamón común y el tarro blanco. Entre las más frecuentes están la garza real, el ánade azulón, y el somormujo lavanco.Cercanos a estas lagunas se encuentran los parajes naturales de los embalses de Cordobilla y Malpasillo que completan el interesante atractivo de la zona para la observación de aves acuáticas. Ofrece un área recreativa habilitada.

The entrance to the lagoon itself is free, the visitor center has visiting hours. You can go cycling or walking. The Centro de Visitantes is located on the A-304 just south of Aguilar de la Frontera. Leave the A-304 at the roundabout at km 4.3 and follow signes for Zonar lagoon on the old road. It has a car park, bird hides and information on the lake. There are also two trails around the Zonar reserve, the Sendero Botánico La Carrizosa and the Sendero del Observatorio, both at the visitors' centre.

It`s a very beautiful area. There are not only birds in the lagoon, there are also olive groves and terraces nearby.
