The Laguna de Medina is the largest lagoon in the province of Cadiz and the second largest in Andalusia after Fuente de Piedra.
Laguna de Medina is a very large inland pond which is bordered by large reed beds. It is an important site for the reproduction of Red-knobbed Coot and (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κεφαλούδι. This site is also a first-rate place as a migratory and wintering stopover for thousands of ducks. The Laguna de Medina is also surrounded by Mediterranean maquis favorable to species such as Western Olivaceous Warbler.
Note that the last years have been very dry and the lagoon is sometimes completely dry. Check the comments below for the latest situation.
The Laguna de Medina is located about 10 km south of Jerez de la Frontera on the edge of the A-381 autovia at exit number 4. You will then arrive at the entrance to the site where several parking lots are available with a forest house open part of the year. The area can be explored on foot on wooden gratings.
