Description

Estany de Banyoles is a natural lake located in northeastern Catalonia and named after the nearby town of Banyoles. The lake is approximately 2,100 m by 750 m with an average depth of 15 m that in several points gets down to 46.4 metres. It is located in a natural tectonic depression. There are always birds to see, but note that in the summer, the number of birds is significantly lower. Among the birds you can observe are Λευκός Πελαργός, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Συκοφάγος, Τσιχλοποταμίδα, Καστανοκέφαλος Γλάρος, Ασημόγλαρος της Μεσογείου, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, Τσαλαπετεινός, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Κιστικόλη, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Ψευταηδόνι, (Κοινό) Αηδόνι, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κορμοράνος and (Κοινός) Κόρακας.

Estany de Banyoles is located in the town of Banyoles, in the province of Girona, in northeastern Catalonia. Press P on the map for directions to a parking. You can walk all the way around the lake (6,5 km). The northern part of the lake is the best part for birdwatching.
