Rooi-Els is one of best places to find cape endemics.
Rooi-Els is the premier birding spot to find cape endemics such as Cape Rockjumper, Ground Woodpecker, Cape Sugarbird and Orange-breasted Sunbird to name a few. Birding is very easy along a wide dirt road, closed at one end, so no cars.
The top birds are mostly found to the east (left) of the road. Look amongst the boulders for the rockjumpers.
Rooi-Els is located along the R44 (Clarens Drive) from Gordon's Bay. Take the second turn off into the tiny town, Porter Rd. Drive to the end of the road, to the boom. Park there, and walk down the dirt road. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates.
