Description
During the spring many waterbirds breed in the Ruda Fishponds Grebes such as (Κοκκινόλαιμο) Νανοβουτηχτάρι, Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι and Κοκκινοβουτηχτάρι. During migration many ducks can be seen, most interesting: Ψαλίδα (του Βορά), (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια, Καπακλής, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Σαρσέλα and (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, and sometimes others. (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη can be seen every time on the river flowing through the complex. In the reeds you can hear and see Μουστακαλής, Τσιχλοποταμίδα, Υφάντρα, Καλαμοποταμίδα and various other species of warblers. In the sky raptors such as (Ευρωπαϊκός) Θαλασσαετός, (Κοινή) Γερακίνα, (Κοινό) Ξεφτέρι and Διπλοσάϊνο. Various songbird species live in the nearby forest as well. During the migration plenty of shorebirds stop by. Πρασινοσκέλης, Λασπότρυγγας, (Κοινό) Μπεκατσίνι, Μαχητής, Δασότρυγγας and Ακτίτης being the most common ones.

Access
One small parking spot behind the bridge on the river. Click on the P in the map for directions. Don't wander of the paths as it's a privately owned area. The area can only be visited on foot. The circular route indicated on the map is about 5 km.
