Frognerparken is perhaps best known for all the statues by Gustav Vigeland, but it's worth bringing your binoculars as well when you visit.
In summer, Frognerparken is a good spot for the resident, urban species, like Λευκοσουσουράδα , (Κοινός) Σπίνος , (Κοινή) Καρδερίνα and (Κοινός) Κότσυφας. In addition, the ponds will hold various ducks and maybe also Αρκοπετείναρο, Ακτίτης and Σταχτοσουσουράδα. (Βουβός) Κύκνος breeds here.
In winter, the ponds usually have open water, which is good for wintering ducks. Πρασινοκέφαλη Πάπια are of course abundant, while (Ευρωπαϊκή) Βουκεφάλα and Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια are usual guests. (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι and (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι also regularly winter here. Always check for rarer species, especially in late fall and early spring. Σταχτοτσικνιάς is also a common sight. Gulls also frequent the park during the winter months, due to people feeding the ducks. Wintering Καστανοκέφαλος Γλάρος and Θυελλόγλαρος can be found, as well as rarer species. Both Glaucous Gull and Ισλανδόγλαρος have been reported from the park, and one Ring-billed Gull was found here in the spring of 2001.
Follow Frognerelva south west to Skøyen and look for (Ευρωπαϊκός) Νεροκότσυφας during winter.
Frognerparken is easily accessible by bus, tram and subway. Majorstuen is the closest hub, a mere five minute walk away. If you exit to the south west towards Skøyen, you will find both train, tram and bus to take you back to Oslo. Driving is not recommended, as parking may be difficult and expensive.
