Description
The Park van Luna was built around the turn of the century. There is a large lake where large groups of (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι, Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια, Γκισάρι and various species of seagulls can be seen in the winter. In and around the water bodies south of the lake breed Καστανοκέφαλος Γλάρος, Ποταμογλάρονο, (Ευρασιατικός) Ήταυρος, Σχοινοποταμίδα, Καλαμοποταμίδα, Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι and (Κοινή) Φαλαρίδα. Breeding birds in the bushes are, among others Μαυροσκούφης, Κηποτσιροβάκος, Θαμνοφυλλοσκόπος, Δεντροφυλλοσκόπος, Νανόμπουφος and (Ευρωπαϊκός) Φλώρος. The area is freely accessible on foot and by bicycle.

Nederlands: Het Park van Luna is een prachtig parkachtig gebied met een grote plas, waterpartijen en bos. Het gebied is aangelegd rond de eeuwwisseling. Er is een grote plas waar in de winter grote groepen (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι, Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια, Γκισάρι en diverse meeuwensoorten verblijven. In en rond de waterpartijen ten zuiden van de plas broeden Καστανοκέφαλος Γλάρος, Ποταμογλάρονο, (Ευρασιατικός) Ήταυρος, Σχοινοποταμίδα, Καλαμοποταμίδα, Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι en (Κοινή) Φαλαρίδα. In de bossages broeden onder meer Μαυροσκούφης, Κηποτσιροβάκος, Θαμνοφυλλοσκόπος, Δεντροφυλλοσκόπος, Νανόμπουφος en (Ευρωπαϊκός) Φλώρος. Het gebied is vrij toegankelijk te voet en per fiets.

Access
The Park van Luna is located south of the town of Heerhugowaard. Parking is available along Oost Tangent 4 or Strand van Luna 3 in Heerhugowaard. Click on a P on the map for directions to a parking lot. The area can be reached by bus from Alkmaar with bus 160 (get off at the Park van Luna stop) and 162 (get off at the Huygendijkbos stop). The entire area can be visited in 1 to 2 hours.
