Description
Wellenseind is an old estate where two streams meet (the Reusel and the Beekloop). It consists of small-scale meadows, ponds, hedgerows, thickets, stream forests and heathland. This is what the region must have looked like about a hundred years ago. Wellenseind is a Natura 2000 area. The area is home to many different bird species. For example five woodpecker species (including Μεσαίος Δρυοκολάπτης with 8 – 10 territories), (Κοινός) Σταυρομύτης, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Συκοφάγος, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Σφηκιάρης, Χουχουριστής, Ανθρωποπούλλι and (Ευρασιατική) Μπεκάτσα.

Nederlands: Wellenseind is een oud Brabants landgoed waar twee beken samenkomen(de Reusel en de Beekloop). Het bestaat uit kleinschalige hooilandjes, poelen, houtwallen, gagelstruwelen, beekbossen, rabattenbossen en heide. Zo ongeveer moet de streek er zo’n honderd jaar geleden uit hebben gezien. Wellenseind is een Natura 2000-gebied en behoort tot Natte Natuurparel De Utrecht. Het gebied herbergt veel verschillende vogelsoorten zoals onder meer: vijf spechtensoorten (waaronder Μεσαίος Δρυοκολάπτης met 8 – 10 territoria), (Κοινός) Σταυρομύτης, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Συκοφάγος, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Σφηκιάρης, Χουχουριστής, Ανθρωποπούλλι en (Ευρασιατική) Μπεκάτσα.

Wellenseind estate is located north of of the town of Lage Mierde. Parking at the visitor center/restaurant Voor Anker. Click on the P in the map for directions. The circular walk as indicated on the map is approximately 4 km.
