A quiet pond and bird-rich area near the Wadden Sea. A good place for observing breeding (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αβοκέτα, Ποταμοσφυριχτής and (Ευρωπαϊκός) Στρειδοφάγος.

Description

The Klutenplas (which means 'the pond of the (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αβοκέτα') is a protected flooded piece of land that attracts many birds. From a viewpoint you have a surprisingly beautiful view. Many species of birds can be seen from here.

The breeding birds are protected against foxes with electric fence. Breeding birds that can be seen here: Ποταμοσφυριχτής, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αβοκέτα, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Στρειδοφάγος and (Ευρωπαϊκή) Καλημάνα.

Other birds that can often be seen here: (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρομύτα, Ακτίτης, Μαχητής, Κοκκινοσκέλης. With a little luck you can spot Λιβαδόκιρκος or (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς.

Drive north from Westernieland; a narrow road that ends at the dike. Here you park the car (See the P on the map). It's a 30 minute walk from here.
