Description
The Tongelaar estate (248 hectares) is located in a beautiful landscape. It includes patches of forest, meadows, fields, hedgerows, farms and a late medieval castle. A special landscape with monumental oak avenues that intersect fields and meadows, interrupted by scattered areas of forest and land lines accented with hedgerows.
The mixed deciduous forests, with poplar, willow, oak and alder as main species, are mainly found in the lower, moist areas of the terrain; on the relatively drier soils you will find coppice with oak and willow. This alternating structure of the hedgerows make this nature reserve an important breeding and foraging area for birds such as Δεντρογέρακο, (Κοινή) Γερακίνα, Βραχοκιρκίνεζο, Ανθρωποπούλλι, Νανόμπουφος, Χουχουριστής, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Κουκουβάγια, Lesser Whitethroat, Κιτρινοστριτσίδα, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Συκοφάγος and (Κοινό) Αηδόνι. From May onwards, several songbirds also reside in the reeds along the stream of the Lage Raam.

Nederlands: Het Landgoed Tongelaar (248 hectare) ligt in een prachtig Brabants coulissenlandschap met grote vogelsoortenrijkdom en verschillende biotopen. Het omvat stukken bos, weides, akkers, lanen, houtwallen, boerderijen en een laatmiddeleeuws kasteel. Een bijzonder landschap met monumentale eikenlanen die akkers en weides doorsnijden, onderbroken door verspreid liggende stukken bos en met houtwallen geaccentueerde terreinglooiingen.
De gemengde loofbossen, met als hoofdsoorten populier, wilg, eik en els vindt je voornamelijk in de lagere vochtige terreingedeelten; op de relatief drogere gronden tref je hakhout met eik en wilg aan. Deze afwisselende opbouw van de houtwallen maken dit natuurgebied tot een belangrijk broed- en foerageergebied voor vogels als Boomvalk, Buizerd, Torenvalk, Kerkuil, Ransuil, Bosuil, Steenuil, Braamsluiper, Spotvogel, Wielewaal en Nachtegaal. Meerdere zangvogels huizen daarnaast vanaf mei in het riet langs de Lage Raam. Andere mooie vogels die je er kunt zien zijn Zwarte Specht en Wespendief.

Tongelaar estate is located north of the village of Mill. There is a large free parking space on the Hoogedijk. Click on the P in the map for directions to the parking lot. The area can be explored on foot from the car park. The circular walk indicated on the map is 6 km.

Nederlands: Landgoed Tongelaar ligt ten noorden van het dorp Mill. Het landgoed is vrij toegankelijk op wegen en paden. Er is een grote gratis parkeerplaats aan de Hoogedijk. Klik op de P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplaats. Vanaf de parkeerplaats is het gebied te voet te verkennen. Er zijn gemarkeerde wandelroutes van 3 km (blauw) en 6 km (rood). More than 50 badgers live around the estate. Because this omnivore also has a sweet tooth, in the past berry-bearing shrubs were planted in the many hedgerows. This attracts butterflies and also provides breeding grounds for all kinds of songbirds. Field birds such as Καμπίσια Πέρδικα and Χρυσοτσίχλονο scavenge for their food on the organically managed fields.

Nederlands: Er leven op en rond het landgoed meer dan 50 dassen. Omdat deze alleseter ook een zoetekauw is, zijn in het verleden in de vele houtwallen besdragende heesters als sleedoorn, meidoorn, vlier en Gelderse roos aangeplant. Dit trekt vlinders aan en levert ook weer broedgelegenheid op voor allerlei zangvogels. Akkervogels als patrijs en geelgors scharrelen hun kostje bij elkaar op de biologisch beheerde akkers. De Lage Raam en het Peelkanaal komen hier samen en het gebied functioneert als ecologische verbindingszone.
