Former agricultural floodplain of the river Waal has been transformed into a nature reserve. Various water birds, waders and birds of prey can be observed here.
The Breemwaard is a more than 100 ha large floodplain on the south side of the river Waal between Loevestein and Zaltbommel. The area is a kind of secondary channel to the Waal when the water level is high. The combination of shrubs, grassland, areas of forest and water attracts many birds. Birds you can see here include Barnacle Goose, Ασπρομέτωπη Χήνα, (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Καλημάνα, (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρομύτα, Αργυροτσικνιάς, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Φλώρος, (Κοινό) Φανέτο and (Κοινή) Καρδερίνα.

Nu liggen er nevengeulen van de Waal. De combinatie van struiken, grasland, stukken bos en water trekt veel vogels aan.
