Description

Palm Islands Nature Reserve used to host many breeders in the past. Today, due to high levels of disturbance (many tourists visit the island via a boat shuttle) only the Ασημόγλαρος της Μεσογείου still breeds on the island. Today, the island remains an excellent site for monitoring the large migration of waterbirds as well as well as potential observation and/or ringing of passerine migrants. The site is also interesting for wintering seabirds.

Birds that can be observed in the area include (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κορμοράνος, Ροδοπελεκάνος, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Σαρσέλα, Σταχτοτσικνιάς, Καλαμοκανάς, Καστανοκέφαλος Γλάρος, Μελανόγλαρος, Λευκός Πελαργός, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Νεροκελάδα, Λευκοσουσουράδα, Κιτροσουσουράδα, Σταχτοσουσουράδα, Χειμωνογλάρονο, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Καλημάνα, Ποταμογλάρονο, Αργυρογλάρονο, Ποταμοσφυριχτής, (Ξανθός) Κρυπτοτσικνιάς, Μαύρος Πελαργός, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι and Μύχος (της Μεσογείου).
