The park sits along the edge of the Port of Tokyo, with ponds that are connected to the sea and influenced by the tides. Within the park, there is a nice diversity of habitats such as saltwater and freshwater ponds, streams, woodland and grassy fields. More than 235 species of birds have been recorded in the park, from shorebirds, ducks and goshawks to many songbirds. The park has several bird hides, viewing screens and observation points.

Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park is located between central Tokyo and Haneda airport. Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park actually consists of two small parks, separated by a road. The entrance is in the west park. In the middle there is a nicely designed building for bird observation with lots of telescopes, a tiny library and friendly japanese guides.
