The town of Massarella borders the Fucecchio Marshes, a wetland area of about 1800 hectares that is rich in birds.

Description

The town of Massarella is situated on the south west edges of a lake and marshland area called Padule of Fucecchio which is the largest internal marshland in Italy and is a protected nature preserve. From Massarella it is easy to explore the southern part of the marsh area and see birds like (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κορμοράνος, Λευκός Πελαργός,Σταχτοτσικνιάς, Αργυροτσικνιάς, (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρομύτα, (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς, Γελαδάρης, Πρασινοκέφαλη Πάπια and Καλαμόκιρκος.
