Description
Lago Matese is a beautiful alpine lake situated in the Matese Regional Park. The lake covers a surface area of 5 square kilometres and is 15 metres deep at its deepest point. It stands at an elevation of 1,011 metres above sea level. The lake attracts many ducks and is a rest and feeding area for many birds during migration. Among the birds you can encounter are (Ευρωπαϊκή) Σαρσέλα, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, (Ευρωπαϊκη) Βαλτόπαπια, (Κοκκινόλαιμο) Νανοβουτηχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Τρυγόνι, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κούκος, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Γερανός, Καλαμοκανάς, Πρασινοσκέλης, Λασπότρυγγας, (Ευρασιατικός) Ήταυρος, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Μικροτσικνιάς, Πορφυροτσικνιάς, (Ξανθός) Κρυπτοτσικνιάς, (Κοινός) Νυχτοκόρακας, (Ευρασιατική) Χαλκόκοτα, (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρομύτα, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Σφηκιάρης, Φιδαετός, Χρυσαετός, Καλαμόκιρκος, Ψαλιδιάρης, Τσίφτης, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Γκιώνης, Τσαλαπετεινός, Αετομάχος, Κοκκινοκαλιακούδα and (Κοινός) Κόρακας.

Access
Lago Matese is situated in the Matese Regional Park, within the Province of Caserta. The lake can be reached by car. There is a road that runs along the entire perimeter but best option is to park and explore the banks on foot. Click on the P in the map for directions.
