Description

Reykhólar is a small village located in the Westfjords. It's known for its stunning natural beauty and rich bird life, making it a great destination for birding. The village is situated in a geothermally active area, which adds to its unique charm.

The sea closest to shore is very shallow and with a high tidal range. These conditions, combined with the marshes and ponds found inland create a perfect environment for a rich bird life. From the village you can walk straight into the nature reserve. Ideal area for bird photography. Among the birds you can encounter are Κηλιδοβούτι, (Κοινό) Μπεκατσίνι, Rock Ptarmigan, Χιονόπαπια, Ερυθρόλαιμος Φαλαρόποδας, Χιονογλάρονο, Αγριόκυκνος, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Βροχοπούλι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Λιμόζα, Σιγλίγουρος and Χειμωνοβουτηχτάρι.
