Shallow nutrient rich bay, the inner western part of the bay continues inland along wet and muddy areas with a lot of small pools.
Vourkari Bay is very accessible and has a lot of roads and viewpoints to get closer to the birds. Good for a lot of types of birds especially related to the wetlands and sea, but also the bushes and shrubbery around the mudflats and ponds holds a lot of smaller birds. Among the birds you can observe are (Ευρωπαϊκό) Φοινικόπτερο, Βαρβάρα, Νησιώτικη Πέρδικα, Κισσόκουκος, Καλαμοκανάς, Αργυροπούλι, Ποταμοσφυριχτής, Αμμοσφυριχτής, (Ευρασιατική) Τουρλίδα, Πρασινοσκέλης, Χειμωνογλάρονο, Μαυροτσιροβάκος and Δενδροχελίδονο.
Vourkari Bay is located east of the city of Megara. From Megara drive towards the ferry to Salamina, but the direct road to the location is like maybe 1.5 km before the ferry. For good starting location and viewpoints, click on a P in the map for directions. Don't drive the whole way out, park by the houses and walk if it has rained or is muddy.
