Mt Hymettus is a great birding place, very close to the city center of Athens with several species to enjoy such as Αιγαιοτσιροβάκος, Ασπροκωλίνα, Νησιώτικη Πέρδικα, Αετογερακίνα and Νανομυγοχάφτης . Different habitats (scattered forest, olive groves, makia vegetation, rocky slopes) provide excellent habitat for a variety of birds, basically passerines.

Walk around Kesariani Monastery to see Νανομυγοχάφτης in fall, also breeding Χουχουριστής, Σιρλοτσίχλονο, Μαυροτσιροβάκος, Πυροβασιλίσκος, Αιγίθαλος and (Ευρωπαϊκός) Γκιώνης. Drive up the summit in spring and explore the surrounding paths for Αιγαιοτσιροβάκος, Μαυροφτέρι, Ασπροκωλίνα, Γαλαζοκότσυφας, (Δυτικός) Βραχοτσοπανάκος and Αετογερακίνα.
