Lighthouse on the northernmost point of Lesvos. A great spot to look over the strait towards Turkey.
The Faros lighthouse lies on the northernmost point of Lesvos, and is completely abandoned. The view from this vantage point over the strait towards Turkey is fantastic. It's a great spot to observe migrating raptors and storks that cross the strait to Lesvos during autumn migration. Common species that can be seen are buzzards (Steppe Buzzard, Αετογερακίνα), harriers (Καλαμόκιρκος, Λιβαδόκιρκος and Στεπόκιρκος), Τσίφτης, Ψαραετός, (Κοινό) Ξεφτέρι, Διπλοσάϊνο, and storks (Μαύρος Πελαργός, Λευκός Πελαργός).
Over the strait, large flocks of Μύχος (της Μεσογείου) can be seen. Sometimes Αρτέμης, Αρτέμης (diomedea) can be spotted within these flocks. Also keep an eye out for dolphins.
The road towards the lighthouse is great for smaller migrants, like (Κοινός) Φοινίκουρος, Σταχτομυγοχάφτης and Γερακοτσιροβάκος. Also, large flocks of swallows, martins and swifts tend to hang around this part of the Korakas headland as well.
The Faros lighthouse is fairly hard to reach with a "common" vehicle; the track is unpaved, steep, and consists of coarse gravel and rocks. It is adviced to only drive here with an offroad vehicle. You can also park your car at the top of the track and walk down towards the lighthouse.
