Description
Alexandros Salt Pans are clearly no longer used for salt production. There are several small lagoons by the beach at the south side and the tarmac road follows the beach. A good dirt track continues along the embankment all the way, finishing as a dead end after 2.4 kilometres.
I visited the site in September during high tide (a dozen of both Μαυροκέφαλος Γλάρος and Χειμωνογλάρονο, Ασημόγλαρος της Μεσογείου, Καρατζάς, Λαγγόνα and (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κορμοράνος, (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Κιστικόλη), was somewhat surprised by the low number of birds, so I returned during low tide, only to find even fewer birds and not a single shorebird.
