In this old meander of the river Rhine you can find some species that are quite rare for the city of Cologne.
The Worringer Bruch is 164 hectares nature reserve with marshy lowlands in the far north of Cologne. It is an almost completely dried up meander of the Rhine. As large parts are difficult for people to access the Worringer Bruch offers shelter for some birds that are rare for Cologne. Birds that breed in the area are (Ευρωπαϊκός) Συκοφάγος, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Σφηκιάρης, Καλαμόκιρκος, Χουχουριστής, (Κοκκινόλαιμο) Νανοβουτηχτάρι, Ποταμοσφυριχτής, Μαύρος Δρυοκολάπτης, (Κοινό) Αηδόνι and (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κούκος.
The Worringer Bruch lies south of the Cologne district of Worringen and borders the district of Roggendorf to the east. You can arrive by public transport to Worringen S-Bahn station and start walking from there. There is no special parking lot in Worringer Bruch, but you can park near the Worringen S-Bahn station and explore the nature reserve from there on foot. Click on the P in the map for directions.
