Due to the exposed location of the island of Sylt, many pelagic birds can be observed from the west beach of Westerland at any time of year, but especially during the autumn storms. To name just a few of the regular species: Αετοληστόγλαρος, Γερακοληστόγλαρος, Sooty Shearwater, Northern Fulmar, Common Guillemot, Σούλα (του Βορά) and Razorbill. In addition, many other, sometimes even rarer, species can be observed with a bit of luck.
