Description

The Weingartener Moor is an interesting place to visit and can host a good variety of bird species. The varying levels of water throughout the year adds a certain dynamic and an element of surprise. When there are open areas of water, there are good numbers of geese and ducks present. Σταχτόχηνα, Canada Goose, Πρασινοκέφαλη Πάπια, Καπακλής, Γκισάρι, Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, (Κοινή) Φαλαρίδα and (Κοκκινόλαιμο) Νανοβουτηχτάρι are all regularly seen here.

Receding water levels and muddy fringes can attract birds such as (Κοινό) Μπεκατσίνι and Δασότρυγγας. In August 2023, a juvenile Χαλικοκυλιστής was even observed here! The surrounding woodland is home to a good number of species and is a good place to look for Γερακότσιχλα, Μεσαίος Δρυοκολάπτης and Νανοδρυοκολάπτης. If you are lucky, you may see a Δεντρογέρακο hunting dragonflies in summer.
