Description
In the large open area of the Vehnemoor typical marsh breeders such as Λιβαδοκελάδα, Γαλαζολαίμης, (Μεγάλο) Καλαμοτσίχλονο, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Γερανός, (Κοινό) Μπεκατσίνι, (Ευρασιατική) Τουρλίδα, Κοκκινοσκέλης and Ποταμοσφυριχτής are common in spring and summer. There is also a small colony of Καστανοκέφαλος Γλάρος and single pairs Θυελλόγλαρος. The forested area in the central part is a breeding place for (Ευρωπαϊκό) Γιδοβύζι, Θαμνοφυλλοσκόπος and Δεντροκελάδα.
On spring migration parts that just have been recently renaturalised are also good spots for Waders. Most numerous species are Πρασινοσκέλης, Δασότρυγγας, Λασπότρυγγας, Αμμοσφυριχτής and Σταχτιά Νανοσκαλίδρα. From late April to August (best time is first decade of May) other Wader species such as Λασποσκαλίδρα, Λευκοσκαλίδρα, Χαλικοκυλιστής, Δρεπανοσκαλίδρα and (Κοινή) Νανοσκαλίδρα could be watched here.
In winter the area is used as a roosting site for huge numbers of Greater White-Fronted Geese & Bean Geese, Common Cranes and swans.
See the full list of species that have been recorded in the Vehnemoor below (including historic records).

Access
There are four ways to access the moor (see map). One road through the area could be used by car, others are forbidden to use and blocked with barriers. But those can be explored on foot.
