It is worth watching the birds at the Oelbach Klärteiche because, especially in winter, there are large numbers of Πρασινοκέφαλη Πάπια, Καπακλής, Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια, Γκισάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι , Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι, (Κοινή) Φαλαρίδα, (Κοκκινόλαιμο) Νανοβουτηχτάρι and Αρκοπετείναρο. Due to the mixture of forest and water, other species also live there in smaller numbers, such as Πευκοδρυοκολάπτης, Γαλαζοπαπαδίτσα, Καλόγερος, (Κοινός) Σπίνος, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, Σταχτοτσικνιάς, Δεντροφυλλοσκόπος, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κορμοράνος and many more.

The Oelbach ponds are located in the Bochum district of Querenburg, very close to the Ruhr University and the Kemnader See. You can park near the ponds. From the parking you can explore the area on foot or bike.
