The Moorhauser Polder is a low grassland and mudflat area, that is regulary flooded. Additionally a small pond with reed provides further habitat diversity.
The quality of this birding spot mainly depends on the water-level, that is human-controlled and varies from year to year and also within the year. A dike sourrounds the area and is perfect for biking, walking and birdwatching. When the water levels allow, it is a very nice and attractive place for waders, ducks and other waterbirds, especially during Spring migration. It might be the best spot for waders, in the area. Especially (Ευρωπαϊκή) Λιμόζα can be observed in big numbers, including ssp. islandica. In winter big flocks of geese rest there.
At the close by street is a parking spot for 20 cars. By bike you can easily reach the area via the bike trail along the Hunte River from Oldenburg City. You can walk around the Moorhauser Polder (see the map), the distance is about 5 km.
