Former military training area with a mix of forest and meadows. The most reliable site for Στραβολαίμης in the area.
The Kerstlingeröder Feld is almost 200 hectares of open space within the Göttingen Forest. The mix of forest, open meadows and scattered bushes is attractive to a large number of species that are rare elswhere. A visit may produce all woodpecker species. The site is the most reliable for Στραβολαίμης and Σταχτής Δρυοκολάπτης in the area that usually breed with one or two pairs. April is a good month for finding migrating Χιονοκότσυφας. Good numbers of Δεντροκελάδα and Αετομάχος can be found between May and August. Other breeding birds include Φασσοπερίστερο, Γερακότσιχλα and (Κοινός) Φοινίκουρος. Rarely Ορτυκομάναoccurs. Autumn visits can be rewarding during migration with several thousands of (Κοινός) Σπίνος and large numbers of Χειμωνόσπινος on a good day. Διπλοκεφαλάς may occur in winter.

From here continue the road, pass the boar and deer enclosures, continue on the road past the barrier. After 700 meter or so you reach a T-junction where you turn left. Kerstlingeröder Feld ist reached after another 200 meter. The circular route you see on the map is 3 km. So the total walking distance from the parking and back is about 5 km.
