Description
In winter, the Hurstsee is home to a great number and variety of ducks and other waterbirds. There are good numbers (between 15 and 100+) of Πρασινοκέφαλη Πάπια, Καπακλής, Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια, Γκισάρι, (Κοινή) Φαλαρίδα and (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κορμοράνος.
Smaller groups of (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι and Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι can usually be seen scattered across the lake. Φοινικόσιηνα and (Βουβός) Κύκνος are often present, as well as Αργυροτσικνιάς, Σταχτοτσικνιάς, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη and Σταχτοσουσουράδα along the fringes of the lake.
With a bit of luck, you can also see Χηνοπρίστης, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι, Ψαλίδα (του Βορά), (Ευρωπαϊκή) Σαρσέλα (on spring migration) or even a stunning Νανοπρίστης here!
Waterbirds are the main attraction, but the trees and bushes around the lake are worth checking too. There are plenty of common woodland / garden birds, plus a good chance of seeing (or hearing) any of the following: (Κοινό) Λούγαρο, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κοκκοθραύστης, (Κοινός) Πύρρουλας, (Κοινός) Θαμνοψάλτης, Πυροβασιλίσκος, Κοκκινότσιχλα and Μαύρος Δρυοκολάπτης.
