Description
Großer Arber is the highest peak in the Bavarian Forest (Bayerischer Wald), standing at 1,456 meters. During the summer months, Großer Arber is popular with hikers and nature lovers. The mountain is surrounded by many trails that provide stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Around the Großer Arber several alpine bird species can be observed. Birds that can be spotted include Αιγωλιός, Τριδάχτυλος Δρυοκολάπτης, (Κοινός) Κόρακας, Σταχτοπετρόκλης, Χιονοκότσυφας, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Νεροκελάδα and (Κοινός) Σταυρομύτης.

Access
Großer Arber is located in Germany near the Czech border. The nearest towns are Bodenmais and Bayerisch Eisenstein, which provide access to the mountain. From Munich: Take the A92 to Deggendorf, then follow the B11 to Bodenmais or Zwiesel, and continue to Großer Arber. Press P on the map for directions to the car park near the cable car. You can take the cable car up, or walk up. The main cable car, known as the Arber-Bergbahn, is a six-seater gondola lift. For prices see the link below.
