Description
The Gmünder Au nature reserve is an old river arm of the Danube. At this point the Wiesent flows into the old Danube arm and together the two rivers form a beautiful meadow landscape. Wide reed belts, ponds and wet meadows create a resting, breeding and wintering area for many bird species. The area is flooded once or several times a year. Among the birds you can see here are (Ευρασιατική) Τουρλίδα, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κούκος, (Μεγάλο) Καλαμοτσίχλονο, Πορφυροτσικνιάς, (Κοινός) Νυχτοκόρακας, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Συκοφάγος, Σχοινοποταμίδα and Καλαμοτριλιστής. The area can also be very good for (Ευρωπαϊκός) Μελισσοφάγος.

Access
Due to the annual floods and to protect species sensitive to disturbance, entry into the area is not permitted. But paths that lead along the borders of the nature reserve make it possible to see the birds of the area very well. On the map you see a 8,5 km walk to explore the area.
