Landscape park in a former mining area. Perfect to visit with children.
The Biotopverbund Caminau (directly translated "Biotope cluster Caminau") covers the former and recent area of an open mineral mine. It was developed into a mixture of nature conservation, landscape architecture and wildlife playground. The habitats include mainly succesion forest (mainly young pines and birches) and ponds and with some open areas. Its primary purpose is not birding, but educating and attracting the broad public with an artifical ruin, playgrounds, a nature theater etc. Therefore, it is the perfect place to convince your family with small children to go there and you can do some birding on the side.
Biotopverbund Caminau is located 17 km north of Bautzen, just east of the village of Caminau. The area has a dedicated parking spot. Press P on the map for directions to the parking.
