Description
The Baggersee Grötzingen is a former gravel pit that is now part nature reserve, part recreational (fishing, bathing zone). In winter there are usually good numbers of Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια, Καπακλής, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι, Σταχτοτσικνιάς and (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κορμοράνος. They are sometimes joined by smaller numbers or individual Γκισάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Βουκεφάλα, (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια or Mandarin Duck.
Most years, some more uncommon or rare species appear at some point during the winter. In recent years, Σταχτόπαπια, Κοκκινοβουτηχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Μαυρόπαπια and Βελουδόπαπια have all been seen here. The woods surrounding the lake are a good place to look out for less common woodland species, such as Σταχτής Δρυοκολάπτης, Νανοδρυοκολάπτης and (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κοκκοθραύστης.

Access
Baggersee Grötzingen is located south of the town of Weingarten. There is a nice path that leads all the way around the lake. In winter, parking usually isn't a problem, but in summer the lake can get quite busy. Click on the P in the map for directions to the parking. The circular route indicated on the map is about 3,5 km.
