13,000 hectare floodplain on north bank of the river Adour east of Saubusse. Useful birding place when flooded. 880 ha protected for hunting and 93ha conserved.

Description

The area of Les Barthes de L'Adour attracts swans, geese and dabbling ducks when flooded. When the floods retreat you can see waders, such as Λασποσκαλίδρα, Ακτίτης, egrets and Ασημόγλαρος της Μεσογείου. Many birds breed in the area including Λευκός Πελαργός and (Ευρωπαϊκή) Κιστικόλη. Ορτυκομάνα visit on passage and (Ευρωπαϊκός) Θαλασσαετός is a winter visitor.

Access

Difficult to access by car when flooded, and telescope essential. Parking places as shown on the map. Nearest train stations is at Saubusse. The walking/cycling routes suggested are between 3 km and 6 km.
