Near the village of Võiste the coastal meadows are wide, and sandbanks are plenty. The coastal meadows also hold a few lagoons.
Luitemaa Nature Reserve is a wetland complex on the south-western coast of Estonia that consists of diverse coastal and inland habitats including shallow sea, capes and islands, coastal meadows and reed-beds. The coastal meadows near Võiste have shallow waters that attract large amounts of dabbling ducks (Καπακλής, Πρασινοκέφαλη Πάπια, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Σαρσέλα, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι and so on), Βαρβάρα and swans. The wide coastal meadows and lagoons are favored by geese. Most common are Σταχτόχηνα and Barnacle Goose. Rarer gooses like Ασπρομέτωπη Χήνα, Pink-footed Goose, Canada Goose, Κοκκινόχηνα, Δαχτυλιδόχηνα, Tundra Bean Goose and Χωραφόχηνα are often found during migration.
The sandbanks and lagoons are great spots for wading birds. Most common breeding birds are Κοκκινοσκέλης, Αμμοσφυριχτής, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Στρειδοφάγος, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Βροχοπούλι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Καλημάνα, and Μαχητής. During migration Μαυρότρυγγας, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αβοκέτα, Λασποσκαλίδρα, (Κοινή) Νανοσκαλίδρα, Σταχτιά Νανοσκαλίδρα, Κοκκινοσκαλίδρα, Δρεπανοσκαλίδρα, (Ευρασιατική) Τουρλίδα and Σιγλίγουρος have been recorded.
