Description
The Handzame Broeken area consists of a extensive agricultural area, being mainly pastures, with scattered trees, bushes and willow tree lanes. The Kreekebeek river flows through the area and is a great spot for waterfowl, like (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι and (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια. The surrounding pastures are good for flocks of (Ευρωπαϊκή) Καλημάνα. In winter, these pastures are part of the hunting grounds for Χειμωνόκιρκος. In winter, area is also good for Αγριόκυκνος.
The scattered (willow) trees are great for observing (Ευρωπαϊκή) Κουκουβάγια and Φασσοπερίστερο. The scattered bushes and fences are a great spot for breeding species, like Μαυρολαίμης and Καστανολαίμης.
