Description
The Dikkebus pond is located near the village of Dikkebus, south of the city of Ypres. On July 23, 1310, the City of Ypres received permission from the Count of Flanders to dig the pond to ensure that sufficient water was available in the city for dyeing sheets. The pond was created by damming the stream Kemmelbeek. The pond still supplies Ypres with drinking water but also has a recreational function. There is a quiet walking path and cycle path with oaks and poplars around the pond. Birds you can see on and around the pond are (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια, Καπακλής, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, Ψαλίδα (του Βορά), Χηνοπρίστης, (Κοκκινόλαιμο) Νανοβουτηχτάρι, Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, Αργυροτσικνιάς, (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς and sometimes rarer species like Τριδάκτυλος Γλάρος or Ασημόγλαρος της Κασπίας.

Nederlands: De Dikkebusvijver is een vijver nabij het dorp Dikkebus, ten zuiden van de stad Ieper. Op 23 juli 1310 kreeg de Stad Ieper toelating van de Graaf van Vlaanderen om de vijver te graven die naast de Zillebekevijver er voor moest zorgen dat er voldoende water in de stad voor handen was voor het vollen en het verven van lakens. De vijver ontstond ontstaan door het afdammen van de Kemmelbeek. De vijver voorzag en voorziet Ieper van drinkwater. Naast de drinkwatervoorziening heeft de vijver ook een recreatieve functie. Er loopt een rustig wandelpad en fietspad met eiken en populieren rondom de vijver. Vogels die je op en rond de vijver kunt zien zijn (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια, Καπακλής, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, Ψαλίδα (του Βορά), Χηνοπρίστης, (Κοκκινόλαιμο) Νανοβουτηχτάρι, Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, Αργυροτσικνιάς, (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς en soms zeldamere soorten als Τριδάκτυλος Γλάρος of Ασημόγλαρος της Κασπίας.
