Tinchi Tamba is a large area with tidal flats, mangroves, salt-marshes and forest. Paths are clear and well-maintained.
Tinchi Tamba is a birding hotspot, with 251 species sighted historically. A wide variety of birds can be seen in the different habitats here. Water birds sighted include Pied Oystercatcher , Lesser Crested Tern , Pied Stilt , Whimbrel , Far Eastern Curlew. In the forest you can expect to see Variegated Fairywren , Red-backed Fairywren and Superb Fairywren . Other birds common to Tinchi Tamba include birds of prey such as Osprey , Brahminy Kite and White-bellied Sea-Eagle. There is a bird hide that looks out over the water and mangrove areas as well as a public toilet at the park nearby.
Tinchi Tamba Wetlands Reserve has three places to park - a picnic area, a boat trailer car park, and "Car Park 2". Car Park 2 is closer to the start of walking paths but further away from public toilets. Public transport is not nearby. The area must be explored on foot and you can comfortably spend up to 3 hours here.
With easy access to Pine River, you can also view water birds from a canoe or other watercraft.
