Birdsland Reserve is not named for the birds, but the people who donated the land for public use years ago. Their last name was Bird. A great place to visit.

Description

Birdsland Reserve is a 75 hectare bushland reserve. Basically a retarding basin. There are two lakes, one small, one larger and a wide variety of birds can be seen there. Over 130 different bird species have been identified in the reserve. Some birds are seasonal, some are there all year round. Below is just a small example. Azure Kingfisher, Hardhead, Wood Duck, Pacific Black Duck, Dusky Moorhen, Laughing Kookaburra, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Crimson Rosella, Noisy Miner, Australian Magpie, Galah and Magpie-lark.

Birdsland Reserve is located around 50 minutes from Melbourne and can be found at 271 Mt Morton Road, Belgrave Heights. Only open during daylight hours, gates are shut after hours and also on High Fire Danger Days. It is managed by both Melbourne Water and Parks Victoria. There is parking on Mt Morton Road, or you can drive the driveway in (about 1km) to an inner carpark. Press P on the map for directions to a parking. You will find toilets there, picnic areas and many paths to walk. Recommend an hour at least to visit.
