Pelican Park is primarily open ball fields, parking lots and buildings for gyms and large events. It does have sections of trees and brush and is adjacent to the Northlake Nature Center. By history it has produced 128 species and is a worthwhile stop between other locations in St. Tammany Parish. it is reliable for Eastern Bluebird, Killdeer and Loggerhead Shrike all year. Purple Martin is present spring through fall and can often be seen gathering in large numbers prior to fall migration. Notably there have been several sightings of Vermilion Flycatcher over the years.
It is easy to add-on the northern section of Northlake Nature Center by entering through the path by the Grey fields parking area. It is also only 1.3 miles from Fontainebleu State Park.

Pelican Park is located on US 190/Florida St. approximately 3.5 miles by car east of Mandeville, LA. The entrance is well marked. Note that there may be law enforcement directing traffic when events are scheduled in the park. There is no public transportation. Parking is abundant. Press a P on the map for directions.
It is best explored by car with frequent stops. Northlake Nature Center paths are by foot if you choose to enter it from Pelican Park. Forty-five minutes to an hour is usually sufficient to bird the park.
