Beschreibung

Lake Apopka is the third largest lake in Florida. The north shore of Lake Apopka is a haven for bird watching. The Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive leads along the north side of the lake through former farmland that was rewetted as part of a restoration project. The polluted water from the lake is passed through the marshland so that the water is then returned cleaner. The nutrient content of the supplied lake water enables lush marsh vegetation, which provides a basis for life for many bird species. Among the birds you can encounter are Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret, Tricolored Heron, White Ibis, Glossy Ibis, Cattle Egret, Osprey, Red-shouldered Hawk, Little Blue Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron and Red-winged Blackbird .
