Estuary, sand bar, dunes, tidal swamp and pebble coastline at mouth of the iconic river Spey.
Spey Bay is situated on the mouth of the River Spey on the coast of the Moray Firth. Flußseeschwalbe and Küstenseeschwalbe breed in summer. Autumn sees large passage of waders, dispersing seabirds such as Papageitaucher, Trottellumme, Tordalk, Krähenscharbe, Dreizehenmöwe and Basstölpel. In winter and early spring the bay is a sheltered spot for large numbers of sea ducks and divers, also Polarmöwe and Eismöwe possible.
Site is 8 miles east of Nairn, north of the A96 road. Car parking either side of the estuary, in Kingston or Spey Bay village. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point.
