One of the best wetlands in Turkey. Ramsar Site and National Park. You can see Rosapelikan, Krauskopfpelikan, Zwergscharbe, Weißkopf-Ruderente.
Kuşcenneti National Park (Kuşcenneti Millî Parkı) is located on the northeastern shores of lake Kusgölü. It is one of the most important waterfowl areas in Turkey. At the end of the winter the water level rises, which cover the small willow grove and reed beds at the northwest of the lake. By spring, migrating birds fly from the southern regions to the national park and nest, so their young are hatching and growing in the area. At the end of summer, they return to the warmer south. This tiny area (64 hectares) is a popular migrating spot for birds from Europe and Asia, making it a world-famous bird-watching location. There are 239 different species inhabiting the area during these months, with a total of three million birds. On and around the lake you can see Zwergscharbe, Krauskopfpelikan, Weißkopf-Ruderente, Löffler, Nachtreiher, Seidenreiher and many different species of ducks, gulls, terns and waders. The area is an important breeding ground for Spornkiebitz. Most birds can be seen between March-July and September-October.
There is a visitor centre and an observation tower. You can watch birds in every season but in spring you can also see the breeding nests of Krauskopfpelikan and Zwergscharbe from the bird watching tower. The tower, which is 17.5 m in height can take up to 40 people on the platform. You can borrow binoculars or a telescope free of charge.
The park can be reached via the Balikesir – Bandirma highway. And also there is parking place for whom reach to there by their own car. Click on the P in the map to get directions. Public transport: is easily provided by buses departing every hour from Balikesir bus station. Or from Bandırma village that is close to the national park (15 km). You have different accommodation alternatives in Bandirma. You can take a bike, bus or taxi to the national park.
