At the far end of the Stora Rör harbor there is a shelter from the wind. From here you have a perfect view of the strait between Öland and the mainland.
From Stora Rör Hamn you have a perfect view of the strait between Öland and the mainland. The strait is a natural migration route for south- and north-bound seabirds. In both autumn and spring, tens of thousands of Eiderente pass through, often at close range and in large flocks. Other common migratory birds are Samtente, Trauerente, Mittelsäger, Sterntaucher and Prachttaucher. From August to October, some Falkenraubmöwe, Spatelraubmöwe, and Schmarotzerraubmöwe also pass south. The best migration is in spring with southwesterly winds, and in autumn with northerly winds.
Stora Rör Hamn is situated on the west coast of Öland, approximately in the middle of the island. There are good parking facilities near the wind shelter. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From April to October there are also several smaller restaurants.
