Sjötorpasjön is a good place to see wetland birds during much of the year. The surroundings (deciduous forests and farmland) are also interesting. Among the breeders are Haubentaucher, Höckerschwan, Rohrweihe and in some years Rohrdommel,Rothalstaucher and Bartmeise. Other breeders in the neighbourhood are Rotmilan , Kleinspecht, Schwanzmeise and Gelbspötter. During migration periods large flocks of Graugans , Kanadagans , Stockente and Krickente stay at the lake, often including the odd duck or goose species.
From the birding tower you may see several raptors, especially Mäusebussard, Raufußbussard, Rotmilan, Schwarzmilan, Fischadler and Seeadler.
